Standard 2 Teachers know how children grow. The teacher understands how children with broad ranges of ability learn and provides instruction that supports their intellectual, social, and personal development.
Evidence 1: Health Academy Preparation of Learning, unit plan
Rationale 1: This is a unit I plan to use the 2nd semester of the Health Science Academy(HSA) year.It was developed so that students could put into the La Crosse schools website home page or a webpage designed for HSA exclusively. Students will work collaboratively on the project creating a podcast which review the unit they learned. Students would highlight field trips, guest speakers, labs and projects for future HSA students and the community.
KSD Knowledge 2.K.1 The teacher understands how learning occurs -- how students construct knowledge, acquire skills, and develop habits of mind – and how to use instructional strategies that promote student learning for a wide range of student abilities.
Students truly learn when they have to reteach the information. Using technology to enhance the presentation of knowledge helps all student learning levels be utilized more fully, as does collaborating with a partner. Skills 2.S.2 The teacher stimulates student reflection on prior knowledge and links new ideas to already familiar ideas, making connections to students’ experiences, providing opportunities for active engagement, manipulation, and testing of ideas and material, and encouraging students to assume responsibility for shaping their learning tasks.
In this project, students are asked to reflect upon all the work that went on for the unit of study. They need to link the English class, Physiology and Anatomy class and my Health Occupations class projects, guest speakers, labs and field trips into a video podcast to be linked to a website. Dispositions 2.D.1 The teacher appreciates individual variation at each developmental level and shows respect for the diverse talents of all learners, and is committed to help them develop self-confidence and competence.
I developed this project to allow for group variation and access each groups’ developmental level.Allowing for this video podcast project to be a reflection of the unit’s work, shows respect for the diverse talents of each learner.I would anticipate that the development of this project would develop self-confidence and competence in technology integration.
